not head in the sand
What was that again? At some point, always the perfect time comes for an idea? Should this happen, I have missed this time with the idea of a possible follow-up project apparent. I recently suffered a rejection now. But let's start from the beginning.
It's late in the night, as Rita and I had with a taxi in Rio de Janeiro's Copacabana to Barra da Tijuca drive. It is the night when I decide the relationship with Rita to give a real chance. This only works if I spend more time in Brazil or she decides to come to Germany. I myself am not a fan of long distance relationships. And Rita had made in the past experiences with long distance relationships, but prefers the vicinity.
Since they are but in the last semester of their studies, fashion is and will remain until at least late summer in Rio has, it's my turn to make a decision for me. Rita is worth it. And I can go about my work from anywhere in the world. That night is clear so I will soon as possible to return to Rio. And flying at regular intervals to Osnabrück for me to take care of my son.
I look out the window of the taxi. We have to stop at a traffic light and I see how a "sand cleaning machine" by plowing the beach of Ipanema. On a beach bar is already closed rejects a couple in love and kisses. I feel like Rita shakes my hand.
This romantic image is complemented by a Volkswagen "T2 Brasil based on the second track slowly comes to a halt beside us. "I would like to buy such a transporter for Rio. You could then also it leave when I'm in Germany, "I say to Rita and smile at her. But instead of being happy about such an offer, she looks at me with surprise and opens for a few seconds her mouth (that's her expression incredulous amazement, coupled with a corresponding Portion indignation). "Tell me. Can it be that you no longer love me, "she asks me." I will go with this type of van? That's almost a kind of punishment. "And then she explained to me why they are not my desire to drive a T2, can not share. The van is there in Brazil as the vehicle for the" considered lower class. "What in this country maintained a cult vehicle comes in Brazil often "only" used as a mobile business - mobile hot dog stands, rolling second-hand shops or so-called "FRET" (shipping company vehicles).
heard only a few days later on the radio the following message (which I translated Rita). "Volkswagen plans to discontinue production of the T2 in Brazil by the year 2013" Reason was supposedly that are changing the traffic laws and will in future also the van with several safety features (airbags, etc.) must be provided.
This moment is the birth of a new idea: A South American tour for several weeks organizing a T2. But a very unusual trip. For this I link my idea of "Extreme couch hopping" with the interior of the T2s. I was thinking because a bed is installed in the van where I sleep, I should find a host or even need a rest. On my trip, I would then meet other fans of T2 and worked up in my blog the story of the VW Transporter T1 to T5. Of course I have other ideas that can be incorporated into the project and are accompanied with corresponding media.
A corresponding request from the VW group was rejected. Very friendly Mrs. K. writes of the communication Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles: " (...) (...) we have your request received and read with great interest. After extensive and detailed examination we must regrettably inform you that your ideas for projects not on the basis of other projects to support. "
Well, so it should not be. But put no reason for me to head in the sand. is eventually used for new ideas. And since he is already seeing a new idea ...! time what it rumkommt.
the way, in terms of "book project I made a decision (thanks to many comments in the blog ). I will try this week as directly with publishers name and send them my reading test. Even I think here of course you informed.
finished first in this sense a nice greeting (yet) from Osnabrück,
your Daniel

How To Reset Dial Master Lock Combination
setback
The excerpt for my book. Actually I had thought that the agency would take care of the marketing, so I can sit in the next four weeks to the main plant. But unfortunately, everything changed.
There is a sentence in my book, which reads: "For innovative ideas always comes at some point the right time, most often but someone else quickly.." Well, the agency with whom I've worked has just my own quote used to be represented for me and my book will no longer perceive it.
because there is already a couch surfer, who has written a book (was not new to me): Brian Thacker. In his work: "Couch Surfing: An adventurous journey around the world" he does describe elements of the couch surfing, but is far from the topic that I cover. For each Thacker has spent several days with his hosts and has driven far fewer countries and cities in a long period of time. So we can certainly assume that the experiences I made during my trip so far unique in the world, significantly different from Thacker. And I know that my experience was very unusual - I've not all given up on this blog.
has also shown me the agency two other titles that deal with the "world travel". Pretty depressing if it does not work right away. I have my first line as a precaution even if two people I trust to read. Perhaps this is simply the quality of my writing. But the first chapter was very well received by readers. One consolation for me.
What remains to me now? Well, there are two other agency contacts that I could to get into the boat, but somehow I feel more and more confirmed in their thoughts, the marketing of my book to take over. The downside: It costs an awful lot of time. Time that I have not really, I must also work hard for a living. The advantage of an agency, however, is that they (usually) have the necessary contacts with publishers and have their percentage of the proceeds of a special interest in the best marketers have the work.
I will make my weekend probably more thought to how to proceed with the book. What do you think? Own market or contact new agency?
Kind regards, Daniel

Tech Days 2010 - A personal conclusion
This year I attended the first conference: The
Microsoft Tech Days 2010 in Basel.
I was very excited because I did not know what to expect.
Location
The Congress Center in Basel seemed from the outside noble and great, which is then confirmed in the interior. The lobby and the rooms were air conditioned spacious and well (some a bit too cool). Tram means they reached the location from train station in about 10 minutes, so no big world tour.
organization
I've been about a month before the Molden Tech Days overlooked, however, that a student receives a discounted admission. In the demand for support, I was then instructed me again (but this time as a student) to register. But since this was just before the Easter weekend, I was the new boarding pass not be delivered. I received the pass easily suburb.
Eating
were the morning before the start of each session buffets with fine croissant and hot coffee available through the Days drinks, small desserts and snacks - that was the successful part of the story.
The buffets at lunch and dinner could not convince me. This was partly due to the sparse selection, on the other hand, the quality of the meals. Since the main meals
have a greater weight, I am somewhat disappointed with the overall catering services.
Sessions
Last but not least, the evaluation of the sessions. Here I have experienced everything from boring and unprepared (so I felt it at least), and professional presentations, but also humorous and active imagination. The two
Silverlight Sessions on the first day was absolutely entertaining, the Speaker could convey his enthusiasm for this technology and the demos were well chosen. Makes clear, the question then why you need an application in everyday business, such as the access to the webcam and distort the image. But with me it has awakened the desire to look at the issue Silverlight times more detail and to try at home - Programming but also fun and will provide a platform to let the creativity run wild!
The biggest disappointment for me was the lecture "SharePoint 2010 for Developers". This topic interested me most about this conference, especially I hoped to find something that until now not been everywhere on the Internet is - nil. In addition, the Speaker lost too much time at the beginning, "rumzuklicken" on the surface, so little time at the end for code and Visual Studio 2010 was left. LINQ to SharePoint is eg only very briefly flew over in a film and not through code examples presented, although this is billed as one of the important new features in SharePoint 2010. Overall I am disappointed but
of the sessions, as I had hoped more technical details and demos. Maybe I had the wrong expectations and Tech Days are more attuned to the marketing of new products as for the know-how.
Conclusion
It was a diverse experience for the first visit to a conference. Next time I watch myself, however, that the event is primarily the goal expertise building has .

OOD principles - in a nutshell
busy for some time, I am with the principles of object-oriented design (in short, OOD), but so far mainly through books, articles and blogs. Since I'm currently at work designing new software and must realize of course that is the best time to the learned theory into practice implement.
busy for some time, I am with the principles of object-oriented design (in short, OOD), but so far mainly through books, articles and blogs. Since I'm currently at work designing new software and must realize of course that is the best time to the learned theory into practice implement.
The various principles, I still know by heart, so I list them to me with a brief statement of 1-2 sentences on
- The Single Responsibility Principle (SRP)
There should be only one give reason to change a class.
- The Open-Closed Principle (OCP)
a software entities (classes, modules, methods, etc.) should be open for extension but closed for modification.
- The Liskov Substitution Principle (LSP)
On the location of an object of a class in a program can easily connect and always an object of a class derived from this class as long as only expanded.
The Dependency Inversion Principle - (DIP)
abstract entities should not depend on details, but details of the abstraction.
The Interface Segregation Principle - (ISP)
classes duress should not depend on methods that are not needed. Interfaces must be tailored to their clients and not in a hierarchy.
- The Release Reuse Equivalency Principle (REP)
The granularity of reuse is the granularity of the decoupling.
The Common Closure Principle - (CCP)
classes in a component should be closed as a unit against changes of the same type. A change to one component affects only the classes in this component and not other.
The Common Reuse Principle - (CRP)
classes in a component can be used together again. If a class is reused in the component that relates to everyone.
- The Acyclic Dependencies Principle (ADP)
Within the dependencies of components must be no cycles.
The Stable Dependencies Principle - (SDP)
dependencies should follow the direction of the changeability. Components that will change hardly appear at the beginning of the dependencies.
- The Stable Abstractions Principle (SAP)
components that are not changed, should be as abstract as possible. Components that will change much over time should, however, be as specific as possible.
This list serves me now as a kind of checklist for the design of software, for implementation or for code review and refactoring.
